22nd Junior, 31st Senior, 8th Veteran & 6th Youth European Championships
Ondřej Vrábel, 14.4.2016 – We passed the first contest day with three competitors of Sonkal school. Actually they were two boys and one girl.

The first of them was Tereza Žilinská who stepped on the ring number 4 she made it step by step to semi-final round. There she competed against Russian contestant. Despite she showed outstanding performance, which I consider as the best of these category, it wasn´t enough for the advancement to the final round. She got beautiful third place, though.

Another great white hope was Jirka Novák. He indisputably knew what he wanted and Russian opponents could not stop him on his way towards gold. Last year he closely missed it. But this year his performance was really undisputed so the final round was Czech. The opponent of Jirka in the final round was Dalibor Pantlík. Although their performances have been very equal for many years this one was clear. The gold medal passed to possession of Jirka.

The last of our competitors in patterns contest was Tomáš Vodička. He yearned for the improvement of world bronze. He showed relentless performance and among third Dans he made it to the final round, where he encountered a Russian lad (this one recently won the contest at Czech Open in the category of 3rd Dan and higher). His Russian style of techniques was more acceptable for referees and our contestant Tomáš is now celebrating European silver.

At the end of the day was the time for team patterns competition – junior females, where Tereza Žilinská is the captain, lined up for the first match against Ukrainian team, but due to clearly visible fault in choreography they did not advance.

In contrast to that fully experienced team of junior males, whose strong captain is Jirka Novák, had to defeat only Slovenian team and then they got to the final round where they met team of Russia. Czech checkmate for Russian team was precisely prepared Po-Eun (the mandatory pattern) and the result was 5:0 for the Czech team.

Tomorrow you can look forward to seeing the team competition of senior males and senior females, where are also Tomáš Vodička and Jana Kovářová. So keep your fingers cross for them and be aware of great dose of sparring.

By the way, the weather here is beautiful.
